Deposits depend on details
Landlords walk the unit with a checklist. Miss the oven, the blinds, or the grout, and it comes out of your deposit. Clean like someone is grading you — because they are.
Kitchen
Empty every cabinet and wipe inside. Clean the oven, stovetop, and range hood — grease is the number one deposit killer. Pull out the fridge, clean behind it, and wipe inside. Run the dishwasher empty and wipe the seal.
Bathrooms
Scrub grout lines and caulk. Shine mirrors and fixtures. Clean inside medicine cabinets and drawers. Bleach-free is fine — just make it spotless. Replace the toilet seat if it is stained; it is cheaper than a deduction.
Every room
Wipe baseboards, blinds, and window sills. Clean light switch plates and outlet covers. Vacuum closets and wipe shelves. Patch nail holes with filler and touch up paint if your lease requires it. Mop hard floors last so you walk out on clean floors.
Take photos
Photograph every room when you finish. If the landlord claims damage later, your photos are your proof. Email them to yourself so they are dated.
