Before the storm
June through November, every Tampa home should be storm-ready. Bring in patio furniture, planters, and anything the wind can throw. Clean gutters so rain drains instead of pooling. Wipe down lanais and porches so loose grit does not turn into flying grit.
Inside prep
Wash windows before shutters go up — you will not reach them again for days. Clear clutter from floors in case you shelter at home with kids and pets. Do laundry and run the dishwasher so you start the storm with clean basics.
After the storm passes
Storms leave a film on everything. Mop hard floors to lift tracked-in mud and grit. Wipe down counters and tables where damp air settled. Check closets and low cabinets for damp smells — run fans and open doors to dry them out. Wash bedding that sat in humid air for days.
When to call for help
If water got in, dry it fast. Pull up wet rugs. Wipe baseboards. A deep clean after a storm stops mildew before it starts. If drywall got wet, that is a repair job — call a contractor, not a cleaner.
